WHY USE IQM: BUSINESS INVESTIGATIONS
CRIME-FREE WORKPLACE PROGRAMS?

IQM Inc: Business Investigations. This licensed and insured agency, of experienced agents, assists companies on a national basis in the conduct of business investigations. The agency specializes in regulated and sensitive industries. Such organizations have policies that establish standards and authorize the use of investigative services. Some busy companies have security and access authorization programs simply because some posted regulation demands it. The effort is wasted because they do not incorporate the results into their overall assets protection program. Other organizations have recognized the improved quality, profit and timeliness of these techniques and expanded the process beyond , or in spite of, the regulations. This plan places a business into a very competitive position when seeking to subcontract to other companies that are regulated. For example, organizations that are providing support to government contractors, financial institutions or licensed agencies, require security clearances. A few firms have mistakenly concluded that there is nothing they can do to protect their people, customers and assets.

Designing a Plan. Companies taking prudent action against hiring violent, impaired, disturbed, or dishonest people have fared well. Crime Free Workplace programs must be fairly administered through a formal personnel policy. This is true at the pre-employment stage as well as during continuing employment phases. The purpose is to provide reasonable assurance that employees will perform their tasks in a reliable and trustworthy manner. Published and enforced policies serve as a deterrent to misbehavior in themselves. Personnel know what is expected and what to expect for violation.

Job Rules must be established to implement the policies. The rules shall clearly state that a worker may not be under the influence of any substance, legal or illegal, nor be mentally or physically impaired from any cause, which adversely affects the person's ability to honestly, safely and competently perform their stated duties. Today's tumultuous communities, and resulting legal attitude, dictate that certain businesses and professional activities provide reasonable measures for detection of persons who are not fit to perform activities within the protected CRIME FREE WORKPLACE.

Prevention is the Goal. Ideally a complete pre-employment clearance investigation will screen out potential problems. However, our lives change. An organization needs to be aware of these eventualities through structured behavioral observation by supervisors and managers. A benevolent approach is advisable but action is best taken before an event occurs. The employee, in a CRIME FREE WORKPLACE, is not necessarily the direct performer of violent acts in the workplace. Rather, it is usually a close but stressed relative to that employee that invades the workplace to commit violence. Often the employee was also under stress but had no place to turn. That is why employee advisory programs are helpful in finding pre-event solutions before they impact directly that employee or the workplace.
